we are now having the electronic prescription printing with first initial only this is not a good idea
Hi We've since had some feedback from the Dispense teams about displaying the first initial and the surname. This was a conformance requirement from the Department of Health around privacy which only allows us to print the Patient's Initial and Surname

These prescriptions are printed and treated with the same privacy as would any normal repeat. Being unable to identify the individual within a family group for whom the prescription is for seems to be a serious oversight. As far as privacy goes removing the first name seems insufficient, yet inconvenient and confusing. This would be insufficient if printed on the dispensing label, and I feel such a change will only lead to dispensing unwanted medications, difficulty in a family sorting their prescriptions and determining which medications they need new prescriptions for. Thanks Fiona.

Definitely agree. We have multiple patient's in our community with the same name and a whole lot more with the same first initial and surname. This definitely has the potential for errors. It would be great if more patient details could be included on printed tokens/repeats.
